Planned giving is thoughtfully planning a gift now for use in the future. It is a way to make a charitable gift to Colonial that can also provide benefits to you and your family. The financial benefit you receive depends on the type of gift and the asset used to fund the gift.
BequestNaming Colonial Foundation in a will or living trust is a great way to maintain use and control of your assets during your lifetime and still have the satisfaction of making a generous gift. In addition, the donation will have the added benefit of reducing your taxable estate.
Charitable Gift AnnuityA charitable gift annuity is an excellent way to improve your income while making a gift to Colonial. A simple agreement between you and the Colonial Foundation, it allows you to transfer assets to us while we promise to pay you a fixed income for your lifetime. The payment rates are determined by the age or ages of the annuitants. You are eligible to receive an income tax deduction in the year the gift is made. You also may benefit from reduced capital gains tax if you transfer an asset with appreciated value.
Charitable Remainder TrustWhen you create a charitable remainder trust, you receive the benefit of an immediate charitable income tax deduction, eliminate capital gains tax on appreciated assets, and possibly improve your overall income. You can tailor the trust to fit your specific situation by choosing from many payment options. Upon the death of the final trust beneficiary, the remaining principal becomes a gift to Colonial.
Retirement Plan GiftLooking for a way to eliminate some of the potential tax liability on that retirement plan you worked so hard to accumulate? Consider naming Colonial as a beneficiary and eliminate the taxes on that portion. At the same time, you can pass more tax-favored assets on to your family.
Legacy SocietyMembership benefits are provided as an expression of our gratitude for your concern in sharing our vision and your foresight in sharing your resources:

Sharing your gift plans with us now allows us to express our gratitude and enables us to honor our donors today.
